"KCA Deutag identified that their competency programmes and accredited learning needs were a key part of their business development plan and an offshore system was developed. As no programme existed from an onshore perspective, I was introduced to accredited learning through NEBS Management qualifications, now Institute of Leadership and Management qualifications (ILM) and Shirley Henderson was a tutor/assessor for my Diploma in Management. This programme was progressional from a Certificate in Management to a Diploma in Management.

This Continuing Professional Development has allowed me to develop my personal and organisational management skills. It has formalised all that I had learned in the field and focused it to a level, that in retrospect, would not have been possible had I not taken part in accredited learning. "Having worked with Shirley Henderson for a number of years in my own career development I can honestly say that my skills would not be as honed and effective if I had not worked with her. Her training techniques have proved effective as has her mentoring and coaching skills. I first worked with Shirley as she assisted me through some competence units relating to facilitating learners which has now culminated in achievement of a Level 4 qualification in Learning and Development. I presently find myself leading a competency development project for PSL Energy Services, that has obtained OPITO approval for its Competence Management System.
